An easy $2,000 scholarship from CaptainU for student-athletes. If interested in getting recruited by college coaches and could use extra funds to help pay for college, check out what’s required for this scholarship.

CaptainU, a recruiting service for student athletes, is awarding a $2,000 scholarship to students who set up a profile on their site. CaptainU, ran by former college coaches, can assist student athletes interested in playing sports at the college level. They have monthly subscription plans to choose from with varying benefits that can give students a better chance at being noticed by college coaches. The scholarship they offer only requires you set up a profile (free) after which you can choose whether you want to upgrade. A few of the perks they offer include 1-on-1 counseling, college search & organizer, recruiting highlight video creation and access to 16,000 college coaches. They cite that 91% of those who try their program are able play sports at the college level. The deadline for this scholarship is June 30 2012.

Application Process

The scholarship application is fairly easy. Simply complete a profile with your basic contact details, let them know which sport you play, your GPA and year you’ll graduate. They also ask that include a list of colleges (5), “Like” their page on Facebook and post a status about CaptainU’s efforts in getting you recruited. In order to receive this scholarship, you must be planning to enroll at an accredited college or university because they’ll send the funds directly to the institution. The scholarship is open to high school seniors and those in junior college. If notified that you’ve won, you can expect a Payment Form in the mail that you’ll need to fill out in order to inform them where to send the funds. Only one award will be given with the winners photo being used for promotional purposes.

About CaptainU

Getting recruited by college coaches can be tough especially with all the competition that’s out there. Colleges and universities want to recruit the best athletes as that can make a difference in their school’s reputation. If an institution has a great football team for instance, that can produce a “halo effect” which should attract more spectators (more tickets sold) and peak the interest of future students who pay tuition across the nation. Colleges themselves will often award hefty scholarships, sometimes full-ride scholarship, in order to get that kind of return. CaptainU tries to streamline the process of getting recruited with various features so that you’ll have an edge on the competition. If you’re in that situation, setting up a profile and applying for this scholarship might prove to be a very beneficial move.
