Criminal Justice Scholarships

If you are a graduate or undergraduate student who is interested in criminal justice scholarships, there are some really nice learning opportunities out there. Winning a scholarship can be the best way to get into a criminal justice career. The pathways that you can choose for following a career in Law Enforcement are varied. You can become a specialist in fields like forensic science, criminology, police studies, fire science, correctional studies, criminal justice, environmental law and others.

Jame E. Collier Scholarship

In order to be accepted for this scholarship, you need to prove that you have a strong desire to follow a career in criminal justice. Students who had criminal convictions in the past cannot be accepted. You also need a minimum of a 2.5 grade point average. The scholarship is granted by the Travis County Sheriff Department Rodeo and is awarded annually during the rodeo event. If you want to apply, you have to send the application form to the Travis County Peace Officer’s Rodeo Association in Texas. The scholarship’s value is 500 dollars per term.

COAG Scholarship

Any high school senior from Georgia or the equivalent can apply for this scholarship. The individual must have graduated in the spring of this academic year. You can also apply if you are a student in Georgia who follows an accredited higher education institution. You have to provide a letter of acceptance or enrollment, a copy of the application and a one thousand words essay using the theme taken from the official website.

ACJS Student Scholarship Awards

ACJS is the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences’ Student Affairs Committee and grants annual scholarships of 600 dollars each. There are only two scholarship awarded and you need to be following a master’s degree or a Ph.D. degree in criminology or criminal justice. The committee is giving the award during the ACJC Annual Meeting.

Criminal Defense Law Scholarship

This scholarship is for students in the United States who are accepted or enrolled in an accredited institution within the US. The required grade point average is 3.5 and there is a criminal record needed, which will be a confidential matter. The amount offered is of 1000 dollars every year, by the Appelman Law Firm. You can apply from the official Appelman website and the deadline is May 31.

H.Thomas Austern Writing Award

Students who are studying at a law school in the United States can participate to this legal writing competition. The winner gets a scholarship of 4,000 dollars and the person who gets the second place wins a scholarship of 1,000 dollars. Each year there are four awards given. The application deadline is June 8. The prizes are offered by the Food and Drug Law Institute, also known as FDLI.

Environmental Law Essay Contest

Students from the United States or Canada who are enrolled in a law school from these two countries can participate to the contest if they write an essay on any subject that is related to environmental matters in Michigan and the legal issues that may be involved. Awarded by the State Bar of Michigan and the Environmental Law Section, the scholarship is worth 2,000 dollars for the first place, $1,000 for the second one and $500 for the third one. There are three awards a year and the deadline is June 30.
