If you’re a first-generation student, the Center for Student Opportunity is offering a renewable $2,000 scholarship for you. This organization aims to help low-income students who belong to the under-served community and will be the first-generation in their family to attend college. Besides the scholarship, they have there 2011 College Access and Opportunity Guide (College Access & Opportunity Guides) which can be helpful for those who want to succeed in school. Scholarship Application Process

The application asks three questions: 1) Why did you select the college you will be attending this fall in 100 word or less; 2) Who/what has influenced you most in your pursuit of college in 300 words or less; 3) Explain why you are deserving of the Opportunity Scholarship in 500 words or less. Along with the answers to these questions, you’ll need a letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor or an adult mentor. They also ask for any extracurricular activities, leadership positions, awards and any other recognitions you’ve received. Winners have the opportunity to guest blog on the website as well. The application is due by May 25.

In order to be eligible, you must also be planning to enroll at one of the member colleges. Search by school type (male, female, coed), support programs (on-campus support, diversity scholarships), fields of study and academic profile (ACT, SAT and class rank). This is a fairly easy scholarship with only one form to complete.
