Negative Population Growth Video Contest

Are you concerned about overpopulation in our country? The more people we have, the faster our finite resources will become exhausted. The concerns of future generations may not be on your mind right now, but the Negative Population Growth organization wishes to change that. They’re offering a Video Scholarship Contest that’ll award six prizes ranging from $2,500 to $1,000 to eligible students who convey concerns of overpopulation accurately. You’ve likely heard about the extreme actions China made with their one-child policy in the late 70s to curtail the risks of too many people and too few resources. The NGP warns that if we don’t make critical changes, we could see our population skyrocket to 438 million people in under 40 years which will negatively affect our environment and society. Your objective for this film is to point out the dangers of overpopulation in this country “socially, economically and environmentally” between 1 to 3 minutes. The deadline for this scholarship is June 30 2012 .

Application Process

As mentioned above, you’re to create a video detailing major issues with overpopulation. To be eligible, you must be either a high school senior or an undergraduate. Only US citizens attending or planning to attend US colleges or universities should apply. You’ll need to create two copies of your DVD that can be played on Region 1 or Regionless DVD players. They also recommend you have everyone appearing on the film sign a release form similar to this one . Include your name, address and phone number on the DVD along with your application when mailing it in. You should probably mail it in at least 10 days before the deadline (June 30) because late entries will be rejected. You can find the mailing address listed on the site.
