A $1,500 Scholarship from ScholarshipDetective

ScholarshipDetective is a new site (currently in beta so there may be a few bugs) celebrating their launch by offering a $1,500 scholarship to those who are willing to give some basic contact information and answer the question “How will you use this scholarship?” in 140 characters or less. And in fact, the answer is optional so all you really need to do is provide your contact information. The deadline is May 31, but since all that’s required to apply is a short form, that should be more than enough time to get your entry in before the due date (Happy Memorial Day by the way).

How to Win and Eligibility Requirements

Entries will be selected based on how well they answer the question, but they’ll also have a “second chance” winner who will be selected by random drawing (which is why the question is optional). To increase your chances of winning though, it might be a good idea to try to write a home run response since it’s only 140 and $1,500 is a lot of cash. It’s up to you. Give it the old college try (pardon the pun), or just let fate decide and simply complete the contact form. As far as eligibility, there are really no restrictions. High school juniors and seniors are encouraged to apply as well as those currently enrolled in a post-secondary institution, graduate students and adult or non-traditional students. Winners will be notified by mail so be sure to give your real address.

An Easy Scholarship from 2400 Expert

This scholarship comes from a website that helps prepare or improve a student’s score on the SAT. The deadline for the 2400 Expert National Scholarship is July 31 and the award amount is $500. In order to be eligible you need to be a high school freshmen, sophomore, junior or senior and plan to enroll at an accredited 4-year post-secondary institution. This is a fairly easy scholarship that simply requires you to fill out an application and write an essay 500 words or less answering this question “Do you believe standardized test scores (such as the SAT, ACT, APs, etc) are a good indicator of students’ academic abilities? Why or why not?”.

Application Process

The application can be downloaded from the site and must be mailed to the address listed below. On the application you’ll be required to provide your GPA, class rank, the current grade you’re in along with basic contact information. It also asks you what your career goals are and any leadership positions or awards you might have attained. Extracurricular activities and community service are also important for this scholarship. If you’re selected as the winner, the check will be sent to your home address around September 15. As with any application, when asked for extracurricular activities or community service you’ve been involved with, it’s a good idea to have a full list before sending your application in. If you haven’t been that active outside school and so can’t completely fill out the application, then it’ll probably be a good idea to try to find a few programs that interest you to join. Still though, even if you can’t provide ample information on other activities, mail it in but make note of that for next time. Bottomline is that at first glance, your application having no empty lines will standout above those that are only partially filled out. When finished with the application, just send it to this address:

Advice for those completing easy scholarships

Again, despite it being an easy scholarship, it is still important to pay attention to detail and make it look as polished as possible. This is one of those times where “looking good on paper” is hugely important and can make a difference between winning the scholarship or not. And as mentioned before, an application looks better when it’s fully completed (no blank spaces or N/A) and the essay is well-though out and informative. Learning how to write a good essay can help you leave a lingering impression on the selection committee which could secure a win for you. If you follow these basic principles when applying for easy scholarships that’ll increase your chances of winning. Good luck!
