The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants offers a variety of scholarships to individuals in varying levels of becoming a CPA. In an effort to promote diversity in the accounting profession, they offer $12,000 through their AICPA Fellowship for Minority Doctoral Students to individuals of different races (Hispanic or Latino, African-American or Native American) entering into a doctoral program. For students who studied liberal arts in undergraduate school but are entering into an accounting program in graduate school, the John L. Carey Scholarship awards $5,000 to selected candidates. Just be sure the graduate program is accredited by the ACBSP or the AACSB International. The AIPCA/Accountemps Student Scholarship awards $2,500 to undergraduate students pursuing an accounting degree. Maintain at least a 3.0 GPA and complete 30 semester hours to be eligible. They have a similar scholarship that awards $3,000 to minority undergraduates and graduates seeking CPA licensure.
NSA Accounting Scholarships
The National Society of Accountants is another organization to have on your radar when seeking Accounting Scholarships. Their scholarship program is ran by Scholarship America , a national scholarship provider distributing more than $2.5 billion through various programs. NSA usually distributes around 32 awards a year of $500, $1,000 and $2,000 amounts. They require that you be enrolled in an accredited two-year or four-year institution majoring in accounting and maintain a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale to be eligible. CPA Society Scholarships
Be sure to check your state for CPA organizations or societies as they will often provide Accounting Scholarships to student studying in their region. The South Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants (SCACPA) has an Educational Fund that supports residents majoring in accounting. The New York State Society of CPA’s provides an Excellence in Accounting Scholarship of $2,500 to $1,500 to full-time and part-time students respectively. The California Society of CPA’s not only offers it’s Accounting Scholarship but provides of list of other awards given by different organizations to students in the profession.
